Iron Reed Scholar It's far enough out from the town of Great Forks that bandits are if not common, then certainly a possibility, it's late enough that most travellers have camped for the night. The road itself is unkept the forest surrounding it on either side. For all that Iron Reed carries his large Dane axe like a walking staff and his clothes are simple, he doesn't appear a particularly threatening sight, especially distracted as he seems to be with random plants he spots along the way.
Winds and Dreams Perhaps... less unassuming, but more subtle about it, Winds and Dreams carries a simple-if-perhaps-not-mundane sword. More to the point, a clever and canny eye might notice the great black wolf stalking through the woods by the road, keeping pace with the woman quite intentionally.

Winds slows her pace, brow furrowing a little. Her focus is on Iron Reed, most notably the weapon he has on him. It's a curious sight- not usually seen just... wandering around, weapons like that. More of a battlefield special occasion. Her hand goes to rest on her hip for a moment as if to prepare to draw her own weapon- albeit just subtly.

Iron Reed Scholar The axe for all it's not seen often doesn't seem to concern the group of half a dozen bandits, armed and armoured in fairly simple, yet obviously effective gear, the bandits break into two distinct groups, the main group blocking the road in front, the second the road behind, they seem to decide to take both parties, there's no bowmen fortunately. The leader of the group steps forward. "We're taking tolls. We'll have your Silver." He makes it sound like a friendly request, though drawn weapons and the simple blocking of the road make it obvious it's anything but.

Iron Reed, hefts his axe, a thumb running lightly over his beard before grabbing the axe in a defensive stance. "I'm afraid, I have little silver, too little to feel comfortable parting with it." He then sighs. "I also don't think I'll be letting you take anything off anyone else while I'm here." He glances briefly to Winds before moving to try and divide his attention amongst both the groups of three.

Winds and Dreams There are all too many people that assume wolves are comparable to most dogs. But when a paw stalks out of the trees that could comfortably wipe out a full handprint from a grown adult, the scale of these creatures becomes clear. The large black-furred creature pads up next to Winds, ducking its head down to slide it under Winds' hand and push it up.

"This... does seem ill-advised," Winds notes, voice oddly mild, eyes closing as if... tired, more than anything.

Iron Reed Scholar With a moment of clarity, the bandits seem to realise that things aren't going as they'd planned, this is a simple job, two people back down to six. They look doubtful for a moment, then their leader, a man who seems to keep his composure better than the others, nods. "Well, don't say we didn't warn you." With that he's motioning his men forward. They hesitate enough to stagger their attack, the two behind their leader coming in a hair later than him, while the trio behind approach Winds and her wolf carefully, swords ready, but hardly charing in.

As soon as the leader advances, Iron Reed shifts his grip on his axe, the blade sweeps in a wide powerful arc, momentum knocking their leader off his feet even though he manages to block the blade. He staggers back trying to regain his feet, but Reed is already cutting through one of his friends, the axe whistling almost in song as it bites deep into the man's flesh before being drawn out to strike the first bandit, a middle aged woman who manages to knock the blade aside, just to have the back of the blade crack her skull.

Winds and Dreams "The same in turn, I suppose," says Winds, and her sword comes to her hand with an odd rippling quality along the steel- hardly a mundane weapon itself. She fends off a few strikes with more raw speed than anything else, before bodily throwing one of the attackers against a tree.

Her lupine companion is perhaps not as aggressively beyond the others' ability, but still manages to pin one all the same as Winds keeps the rest occupied.

Iron Reed Scholar With things under control on his end, Reed places the foot of his axe hard against the bandit leaders chest, pinning him to the floor, his grasp making if obvious he can strike quickly if he needs to. He then glances to Winds. "Call them off." He finally speaks to Winds. "You OK There?"
Winds and Dreams Avoiding any kind of potentially lethal damage, Winds has mostly used her sword defensively here, instead opting to bodily throw opponents into compromised locations to keep them at bay. She rolls her neck, dusting off a moment and running her hand along her wolf's head. "I'm quite alright. Likely would have been either way."
Iron Reed Scholar With the fight over, Reed nods as he looks at the surviving bandits and frowns. "No doubt, you seemed perfectly capable of looking after yourself." He glances down at the bandits. "Question is what do we do with the survivors?" His smile fades as he considers them. "It's a long way to take a group of prisoners who out number us to town. I don't like the idea of leaving them out here though."
Winds and Dreams "Leave them, so far as I am concerned- desperate times call for odd things. May honestly be worse for them in the long run if they're left out here injured," muses Winds, shrugging it off a moment as she sheathes her sword again. A moment after she kneels down, taking a moment to inspect the wolf's teeth and such for injury.
Iron Reed Scholar With a slow nod, Reed looks at the man he still holds pinned to the floor. "You hear that, we're going to leave you here, I travel these roads often. Be careful that you don't let me learn of you in future. I dislike bandits." He then looks to Winds and Dreams, offering her a grin. "I'm Iron Reed Scholar." He lifts the axe, letting the man up. "Gather your friends and go." He looks to Winds. "I'm heading towards Great Forks, if you're going that way, I wouldn't mind company, it seems the roads are getting more dangerous of late."
Winds and Dreams A pause, and some consideration, before... "I've nowhere else to be, I fail to see why not," she muses, shrugging.

There's a low whistle, and she calls the wolf along with her- who opts to step off the road in preference of the denser wooded spaces. She nods to Reed, and then down the road. "Winds and Dreams. There's more to it, but it's... overmuch, if you ask me."

Iron Reed Scholar Reed nods slowly, carefully wiping the blade of his axe, he once more returns to treating it like a walking staff, his expression cheerful and easy going. "Well then, let's be on our way, we've a while longer until I'd planned to rest." He grins as he considers. "It's a pleasure to meet you Winds and Dreams." He watches the wolf disappear into the woods. "A very useful friend you've got there."
Winds and Dreams "Asena is... a close companion, yes," says Winds, nodding a little. "But that's perhaps something of a long story involving... a surprising number of things, up to and including an actual war. perhaps I'll share it at some point at more rest," she suggests, chuckling as she falls into step alongside.
