Drifting Petal It is early morning in Great Forks - in the West Quarter, this means bustling activity, hundreds of people and industrialists milling about, travelers and merchants trying to ply their wares. It is within that crowd that great deals are made, great works are planned, and great sins are committed. The bright sun is not yet high enough to dispel shadow, and a chilly morning mist hangs lazily above the streets and within the dark alleyways, and the taverns and inns fling wide their doors, open for business and hoping to catch a few hungry tourists. It is before one of these taverns that two unusual travelers stand - a swordswoman and a beauty, staring up at the Sparrow's Nest Inn.
Drifting Petal Drifting Petal shifts uncomfortably, left hand resting on her duo of swords, right pulled into her sleeve and cradled by her kimono, ronin-style. "I don't see what the problem is," she opines, gesturing at the less-than-reputable tavern. "It's fine. They've got food and drink, and maybe they'll know where I can find some work! What could go wrong?"
Argent Princess Argent Princess unhooks her tiny finger from Drifting Petal's sash, dubious beyond words as her darkened brow sinks in consternation, her lips pursing in a deadly bow as if prepared to unleash an objection. She seems blissfully unaware of the attention she's gathering, her gaze fixed upon the taller, brasher, far noises woman, passersby stopping to look on as if they were witnessing some interesting altercation. Her hands move, as if to plant upon her hips, but shift across her stomach instead to cross beneath her chest. Indulgence blooms across her fair features, a smile only for Petal, and a sigh like a gentle evening breeze. "Do you think they serve tea?" She asks, an obvious gap in her armor.
Drifting Petal Drifting Petal turns her gaze from the doors to look at her paramour, wearing a lop-sided grin. She, too, seems oblivious of the people rubbernecking at them, too busy to care about on-lookers. "I think..." She begins, brow furrowing, then she starts walking towards the door, turning so she's looking at Argent Princess the whole time, such that her back enters the tavern first. "... I think they probably serve something they call tea," she quips, and with a laugh, she whips around and shoves the doors the rest of the way open, stepping into the much darker tavern. Momentarily blinded, it takes a moment for her eyes to adjust, and she takes in the interior...
Argent Princess Argent Princess is drawn after her beloved as if pulled by a string, drifting gracefully through the doorway a step behind her and slipping to the side out of the light. She casts her misty-eyed gaze about the interior, and quite honestly it's not so disreputable a place, but the unsubtle expression that flits across the vastly overdressed lady begs to differ. She breathes a shallow breath from her mouth as she uncrosses her arms and looks up to Petal with a resigned expression. That all eyes are on the pair of them is an understatement, some of the folk from the street still linger behind onlooking curiously as Argent Princess very carefully shuts the door behind them. "If they don't have sugar I'm leaving." She promises herself, as if she didn't have the heart to say it directly to Drifting Petal.
Drifting Petal Drifting Petal strides confidently through the interior - it's not as bad as it seemed from outside, but shady eyes glare up at the pair from every direction, then soften when they see the beauty shimmering in the dim light. Petal, for her part, draws a few stares, but they're directed at the swords she wears, not her person. She takes a seat at a table of her choice, daring anyone to speak up and tell her where to be. After adjusting her swords to be comfortable, she nods to Argent Princess, then gestures to one of the nearest serving girls. "Tea, please. Whatever the House has."
Argent Princess Argent Princess dips her head slightly as she smiles graciously at Petal, and softly admonishes herself. "Tea should be unsweetened." as she slips into a chair beside Petal without touching or pulling out the seat, disdaining it that despite the uncomfortable maneuver required. She luckily does not notice the dubious expression on the serving girl's face, nor the argument that ensues as she grouses back and forth with the bartender before stalking into the kitchen with an uncharitable demeanor. "What sort of work do you expect to find in a place like this?" She asks, tilting her head with distant curiousity, as she drags a dainty fingertip over the tabletop and seems disappointed to find it clean.
Drifting Petal Drifting Petal shakes her head as the serving girl leaves, firing off, "Bring sugar," before turning back to her paramour and offering a winning smile. She leans forward on the table, elbows on the wood, and declares, "Hopefully, a demon to fight! Maybe monsters nearby! Or, oooh, maybe we could help the peacemakers..." Her eyes drift over just such a peacemaker in the tavern as she says this, an armored man, just peeking in to check on the status of the tavern. Petal practically bounces in her seat. "There's all kinds of stuff that happens in cities like this, Himiko, don't you know? Least, that's what all the stories said." She glances over towards the kitchen now, and the look on her face betrays what her stomach desires.
Argent Princess Argent Princess gently brushes her hand down Drifting Petal's arm and smiles as she listens, flushing a little at the use of Himiko. She relaxes into her seat more easily as she considers that. "I would have thought more official channels would exist, than.." She indicates the tavern with a delicate swoop of her hand. "She probably has to boil the water." She murmurs, as if answering Petal's look. She lifts the singson g clarion of her voice to attract the attention of the armored man, "You there, do you know if there are any monsters nearby?" She asks, with a smile that could steal a heart.
Drifting Petal "There was one," answers the man gruffly, before he slips away. After a few moments of his absence, four rough-looking gentlemen approach the table. Two of them sit down on either side of Argent Princess, while the other two sit near Petal, eyeing her swords. "There's still one," the leader-looking one mentions. "We're lookin' for someone to help us, ah, hunt it."
Argent Princess Argent Princess blinks and shifts uncomfortably as the men sit at each side of her, but gives Petal a surprised look and ignores them as she comments. "My, I suppose you were right." She deigns to glance between the four men, "She's the very best." She assures them dreamily.
Drifting Petal Drifting Petal straightens up in her chair, a little on edge, but she listens nonetheless as the man continues, "There's this monster terrorizin' a local prince, see, and he wants it taken care of. Don't even gotta kill it, just.. bring it to him. Chase it off. Somethin', you feel me?" He snorts loudly, then spits onto the floor nearby. "The Allseer pays well for this kinda thing. Big bounty." The man seems to have finished his spiel, and eventually, Petal pushes back in her chair, looking to Argent Princess with a concerned eye. "I'll take care of it. What is this monster?" She ventures, though her gaze still falls on her mate, looking for some sort of silent approval. The man sneers, and says, "Huge. Can't miss it. Hangs around alleys, wherever you find street urchins. I think it eats 'em, 'cuz they keep goin' missin'."
Argent Princess Argent Princess seems to listen carefully, staring off into space and pursing her painted lips. The last bit seems to crack her aloof reverie, and she frowns as if half-remembering something, but shakes her head. She rises soon after Petal, and stands for a moment before she glances up to her counterpart, "It seems worthwhile, but..." She glances at the men, and clicks her teeth. There's some hint of misgiving in her misty grey eyes as she seems hesitant to commit. "Alleys?" She asks, somehow making the question sound rhetorical, more quizzical than warranted.
Drifting Petal Drifting Petal repeats, "Alleys," with a nod. "Picking on the weak, who can't defend themselves... it's... reprehensible!" She declares, looking proud of herself for such a large word, so much so that she looks to Himiko like a puppy, and if she had a tail, it'd be wagging like mad. "We'll put a stop to it, and make sure children don't have to fear the night." With that, she's already headed for the door, proudly striding, as though she's been vindicated. Work came to her!
Argent Princess Argent Princess lingers still to glance between the four men, allowing the ghost of suspicion to flit across her beautiful features, fading to a soft and strange sympathy. "Alleys are always dangerous places to be. Every girl knows this." She murmurs, as she drifts away from them with silent grace, following three steps behind Drifting Petal and not looking back.
