Tolon | Tolon has got himself a document that may be of value. A treatise on the political structure on the Shogunate, written by a savant of the era of some acclaim. Tolon has been asking after experts to study the piece. He's not been subtle about these inquires. Eventually he was given a name and a meeting was arranged.
The tea house makes for a good, public spot to meet someone to discuss such matters. Tolon doesn't know much about the woman he will be meeting. He knows enough to have put on a more formal air, he is dressed in higher end cotton laced with silks today. Subdued browns and blacks. He sits at a table awaiting his contact, no bow today, though his sword still hangs at his hip. |
Ledaal Anona | A pair of servants arrive first - a token bodyguard. While Tepet Anona has a reputation for one who will go into any old ruin bravely, in civilization there is protocol to observe and a noblewoman of the Realm should rarely be unaccompanied. Then the Dynast herself arrives - her flaming red hair and flushed skin fairly scream 'Fire aspect!' to the skies, and she doesn't look like a scholar who spends all their time in books; she looks like the sort who does a lot of field work and enjoys it immensely. Curiously, while she, too, carries a weapon slung over her back, a long naginata-style spear... the blade at the head shines a brilliant gold. Orichalcum. It's not a favored material to carry around due to the association with Solar anathema, but perhaps a scholar is willing to overlook such things for the evident magical uses. |
Tolon | Tolon had a description of the woman who would be arriving. He stands with a smile and a motion to his table. "Ledaal Anona, please join me." He seems to consider the others and smiles. "Will your friends be joining us?" His attention turns to the weapon for a moment, but it's simply the consideration a warrior can be expected to give a fine weapon. Tolon may be an uneducated savage, but he's known a fine warrior. |
Ledaal Anona | Anona nods, "They'll be in the background. Oh, I can take care of myself, but appearances, you know. Especially here in the River Province, where I'm looked at as the foreigner. So, what's this you're on about, and I hope it's good. I'd had some other plans today, but the intial descriptions sounded intriguing..." |
Tolon | Tolon returns to his seat with a grin. "Sometimes our position compels us. I understand completely." He removes the book from a pocket in his shirt. "A book, found in the Hundred Kingdoms." He offers it to Anona. "I am aware it's old, I suspect valuable, I wish to know more of it." He motions to a waitress. "Would you care for a drink while we talk?" |
Ledaal Anona | Anona's eyes widen as she carefully flips through. "Huh. Yes, this is quite old. Valuable... well, to someone like *me*, it certainly is. This appears to be a copy of the famous Amilar commentaries on the political alignments of that particular period and what led up to them. There's only a handful of them, and they're all later copies-of-copies, most of them dating to the immediate post-Contagion period. I think this is an *original* copy, I see one section already I'm utterly unfamiliar with. And I don't think this is a fake, either... you just can't *get* materials like this, aged this way but intact, and slop ink overtop. The difference will show." |
Tolon | Tolon grins at the explanation. "I hope there is much to be learned from it. I believe the past is important, even if I am no student myself." He seems to consider the Dragon-Blooded for a moment. "I will admit, my primary concern must be value. I have bellies to feed and equipment to tend." He smiles warmly. "I am sure that a collector would be interested, if not a scholar?" |
Ledaal Anona | "To be honest, this is my specialty - I don't want this to slip. But I admit that I'm not exactly as wealthy as some of my fellows who go directly into business. Let's say..." and Anona names a figure that is both more than one might expect for a mouldering old book, although perhaps not quite as much as Tolon would hope for in his wildest dreams. ((A solid Resource 2 purchase, in other words, which she can make easily enough at R3)) |
Tolon | Tolon is first and foremost a practical man. He offers a slow and thoughtful nod to Ledaal, his smile warm. "I am glad that the book will remain with an expert, someone who will hopefully be able to use it to further our understanding of what once was." He smiles as he motions once more for a waitress. "Now we must drink to settle the deal." These words carry the solemn tone of custom. |
Ledaal Anona | "Fair enough. So, if you don't mind me asking, where did you *find* this thing?," Anona asks. "Perhaps I should plan an expedition." |
Tolon | Tolon shrugs a shoulder as he looks at Anona. "It was in the possession of a scholar. He was living in a town that had thought it wise to try to enslave several of my people. I found it while correcting them." He shrugs a shoulder. "I have a fondness for books so I saved it from the fires." He speaks matter of factly before ordering a simple tea. "Perhaps it would be possible that I could read a summary of what you learn of the book in the future? I am trying to expand my areas of knowledge." |
Ledaal Anona | "I'm not expecting anything wildly different from what's already known, although with the missing sections it's possible there are some old political scores that someone was trying to suppress. Frighteningly boring to most people, but I will certainly compose a treatise on it once I've finished with it," Anona says. "Well. It's certainly been a direct deal. You would not believe the number of frauds or just plain ignorance I have to deal with..." |
Tolon | Shrugging Tolon smiles. "I suspect I would. The cities seem full of such things. I would not deny my own ignorance, it was simply taking a chance that led to me. getting this valued." He smirks faintly. "I am known for being direct. Many seem to find it tedious." As the tea arrives he takes a cup, offering the other to Anona. "To a direct and mutually profitable deal." |
