Black Pearl | A note had been sent to Ereyo after she arrived in town, inviting her to the Chateau to meet. As it's during the day, the place is fairly quiet, only operating as a tea house. And when she arrives, she's escorted to Black Pearl's private suite.
The Water-caste is dressed unusually simply today. Light cottons and linen instead of silk, and the array of refreshments has different fruits than usual, leaning more towards the citrus and tart rather than sweet. And instead of working, as usual, she's relaxing at a chair at the table. |
Amilar Ereyo | As if sensing something unusual might have come up, Ereyo isn't dressed in one of her stylish silken kimonos either. Instead, she wears her casual uniform, with the slender daiklave strapped to her back, instead of dangling at the hip.
She enters with an air of quiet anticipation hovering over her, like an invisible storm cloud. But the sight of Black Pearl is enough to coax a more relaxed smile onto her lips. The Lookshyan nods in greeting and unstraps her sword, to place it in a weapon rack near the door. "Dragon's blessings upon you, my friend, and many thanks for the invitation. How have you been?" Briefly, she takes in the unusual choice of dress and refreshments, but doesn't appear overly surprised or concerned by this. |
Black Pearl | Black Pearl sighs. "Been feeling sick a bit recently," she says, with a slight grimace that turns to a smile. "Other than that, dealing with various rumors and the like, trying to figure out what, if anything, is really important."
She takes a pink-orange wedge of fruit and eats it before asking, "And what of you, my friend? How have you been? Has anything interesting befallen you?" |
Amilar Ereyo | The Air Aspect slumps down in one of the chairs with a dissatisfied grunt and stretches her legs wearily. "I'm on my way to a redoubt further north, to join a Seventh Legion unit for my first combat deployment in years. Needless to say, I'm more than a bit anxious."
Her artificial limb twitches, and she scowls at it, then looks up at Pearl, to examine her more closely. "I hope it isn't anything too serious? Have you seen a physician yet?" Sudden worry casts shadows over her face. "And how is Rishi? I... I was trying to find her at the temple recently." |
Black Pearl | "Oh dear," Pearl says. "I hope it isn't against our Legions," she says sincerely. "Will you keep in touch, at least, if you can? Nothing that would compromise military posture or anything. Just....letters to a friend."
She takes a sip of juice. "Serious? Actually, very serious, but not in a bad way." Her smile broadens a bit, "And yes, I am seeing a physician. Going to have a child!" |
Amilar Ereyo | In response to Pearl's request for keeping in touch, Ereyo nods earnestly, before reaching out for a slice of pink grapefruit. Before she's had a chance to put it in her mouth, the news hit her fully unprepared. She lets her hand with the fruit hover just below her lips, frozen in place, as her eyes widen.
"You... you're going to be a mother...?" A brief moment of puzzlement passes by, then the Air Dragon's eyes light up in brightest violet, and a fresh breeze comes up from her, whispering happily as it tousles her hair into further disarray. Suddenly beaming, Ereyo stands up and walks over to Pearl, tentatively offering an embrace. "Forgive my ignorance, I hadn't heard! This is wonderful! When are you expecting...?" She pauses, considering. "I assume Rishi is the, uhm, ~other~ mother?" |
Black Pearl | Black Pearl beams broadly, and accepts the embrace happily. As tight and as close as the other dragon wishes, and not more. The breeze caresses the faint mist of clear fresh water, letting everything cool down in the heat as well.
"It is not something we've really told anyone," she says. "And, um, yes, she is. And...she's having my child as well." Definitely tangled and strange, but Black Pearl has a delightfully giddy look on her face. |
Amilar Ereyo | After a friendly, heartfelt hug, Ereyo lets go of Pearl, then finally remembers to eat her slice of fruit and wipes the bittersweet juice from her fingers. The other Dragon can catch her hazarding a covert glance at her belly, certainly on the lookout for any visible protrusion.
At first, the sorcerer-engineer looks puzzled upon hearing that Rishi is also expecting a child, but then seemingly decides that the peculiarities of this circumstance are none of her business, and smiles happily. "Two children at once, twice the luck - and twice the work. But I'm sure you both have thought this through before comitting. I remember Rishi telling me that she was planning on having children eventually." On the way back to her chair, she takes a few deep breaths to calm herself down, then frowns all of a sudden. "Oh! I am so sorry for disregarding your question earlier. There really is no need to worry. We're dispatched into one of the Hundred Kingdoms. As far as I'm aware, none of Greyfalls' military operations reach that far into the Scavenger Lands." |
Black Pearl | "We both had planned on this...eventually. And after Higanbana..." She traills off. "I needed a link. A link to the living. To the future. To life. And we agreed that eventually had turned to now." She nods, "You both helped me a lot after that, and I still owe you a debt for that, my friend," she says with a smile.
"Oh, all right. Is it about the civil war? Or something else brewing?" She thinks a moment, "SOmething is always brewing there, and I just hope that it won't turn into chaos for everyone around them." |
Amilar Ereyo | Ereyo raises a disapproving eyebrow when the name "Higanbana" is mentioned. Still, as it seems the incident has faded into the past now, she relaxes back into her chair and returns Pearl's smile. But she also raises a hand, deflecting the debt.
"You owe me nothing. We do favors for each other when we're able to and the need arises. That should be enough." With a weary sigh, she rubs her temples. "You have heard about the war, I take it? There are supernatural forces involved, most definitely - that much I can tell you, and not much more." She smiles apologetically. "I am afraid the mission is classified." |
Black Pearl | Black Pearl nods. "Fair enough. It is better that way," she says and then takes another wedge of grapefruit herself to eat. "And I certainly understand classified missions." She grins. "I'm sure it will all come out in the end. I'd offer to help, but It would not be...seemly for a Dynast to do so, or a Lookshyan to accept," she says wistfully. |
Amilar Ereyo | "That is very true." Again, Ereyo sighs, looking broody. The mood in the room shifts subtly, along with a slight desaturation and darkening of her irises, the slumping of her shoulders.
"I have thoroughly considered your offer to join your Hearth", the Air Aspect says eventually, after a long pause. "And my answer is... no, at least for the time being." She shakes her head slowly, meeting Pearl's gaze with subdued regret in her eyes. "Eventually, I'm going to join a Sworn Kinship again, or be part of a new one forming, but I... I don't think your's is the one I fit into." |
Black Pearl | "That is fair enough," Salara says. "I thank you for considering it, and we are still as close of friends as we were before," she assures Ereyo. "It is better to not be in a hearth, than to be in one that does not fit. I hope that you find what you look for in your Kinship, of course." |
Amilar Ereyo | The Amilar scion slumps in relief. Color floods her eyes again. "Thank you. I am glad and grateful that you don't consider my decision a rejection of you as a person... or of Rishi, although I still don't know how I feel about all of this".
Another slice of citrus fruit, orange this time, is eaten with deliberate slowness. "Ironically, after choosing to talk to the ones our faith reviles as 'Anathema', I finally have acquired the knowledge and soon the means to confront my enemy, the Lunar who would have seen me driven to death or run." Her face takes on a grim, determined expression. "In order to move on with my life and find peace, I will have to remove the threat posed by him, once and for all." |
Black Pearl | "If you need, if you wish help," Pearl says. "I will. Assistence with resources, coming along with you, even killing him if needs must be," she says. "I can at least try to weaken him beforehand. Look to find out anything that would help." |
Amilar Ereyo | "I would very much appreciate your help." Ereyo's smile appears genuinely happy, but strangely tinged with sadness. "As much or as little as you can afford. Eventually, when I have gathered enough allies, I will form a Wyld Hunt. Whether you wish to be a part of it or not, any assistance in bringing down this 'Twilight Rain' is welcome."
She spends some time selecting another suitable slice of grapefruit before continuing: "Unfortunately, my memory if my previous encounter with his swarm form is patchy at best. Our Intelligence Directorate possesses no records about a similar incident in our territory. It may be that he simply has spent a lot of time laying low... or he traveled here from a different region. Possibly one under the Realm's influence." Ereyo raises both eyebrows and looks at Pearl, leaving the words hanging in the air. |
Black Pearl | "Give me the details, and I will see if I know anything about this swarm, or similar, anything," she says. "For now...I..think I need to say farewell," she says as her eyes go a bit wide. "Please pardon the rudeness." And she stands, grafecully, if swiftly, and goes back into the private parts of her suite. |
