Silk Moon Lotus The weather for the move it was hot. The breeze from the lake kept the humidity down. The "house" that Silk now owns is a small mansion. Made from a combination of hardwoods and stone, it rises four stories into the air. The house itself sits on a large plot of land for the city. The massive building could easily be the home of a young Dynast. The front doors abig enough to ride a horse inside. The wooden doors show signs of being recently cleaned. The inside is a grand entery that leads into a ballroom that has been setup for a party.
The ballroom is big enough for thirty people for celebrate with room to spare. The room has been decorated for the occasion in gold and silver highlights. The stone floor appears to be made of obsidian with viens of gold running through it.
Bright Journey "You know, I still can't wrap my mind around this place."

Bright Journey sets down a tureen of gravy on the hors d'oeuvres table carefully, her last trek from the kitchen finally complete. She sighs, smiling a bit as she looks over the spread of food, and then over the rest of the room in a generous mix of wonder and sheer bemusement.

"I'll never know how you managed to get a place like this, Silk. Not just the jade, though that's a big factor too. It's how it happened to be -available-. These things don't come onto the market every day, do they? Not that I'm an expert on this." She pauses and looks again at the food. "Or cooking, really. But the food smells great. Who all is coming?"

Silk Moon Lotus Silk smiles at Bright "I sent invitations to everyone but I don't know if they will like such a large gathering. Deacon from the spears may show up but he doesn't like leaving the inn during the busy times of day." She geastures to the food "I did pay someone else to do the cooking tonight. I hired a few servants to take care of the rest. They came with excellent referrels"
Silk walks over to the table and takes a couple of slices of meat. Then rolls them up and starts to nibble at them. "I have spent a lot of time in the gambling halls of late. That's where my jade comes from mostly. I have invested in some businesses around the city so I don't have to rely on luck alone." A look of sadness passes across her face briefly. "I wish my family could see all of this. They would be proud." She smiles at Bright "You did say you needed somewhere to stay, right?"
Bright Journey Honestly, for all that Bright was perfectly willing to help set up, she still looks slightly shell shocked at this entire place. For all that she's extremely polite and well-behaved in virtually any setting, the country girl slips out sometimes. She looks down at the ground for a moment, eyes tracing one of the gold veins, before looking back at Silk.

"I...well, I can't fault the servants you hired, that's for sure. I..." She looks a touch guilty, despite smiling slightly. "I may have snuck a taste or two. Quality control, you know." She chuckles. "But...yeah. I have to admit I'm making ends meet, but no better, with hunting. I'd love to move out of the inn room I'm staying in, but this is...grand. Very grand." She pours herself a drink from a decanter of brandy. "I'm a little afraid I would be imposing on your generosity. I would never just mooch off you, of course, but I could never pay the kind of rent a room in here would command."

Silk Moon Lotus A pair dressed in servants garb walk in carrying trays of fresh fruits and cheeses. They set them down on another table, bow to Silk and Bright, then retreat out of the room the way they entered.
Silk glances at the floor for a moment. She pours herself a healthy drink from a different decanter and sips it. "This house is way to big for me to live in by myself. I could use the company. Besides, I have an idea, if you will hear me out." Silk looks over at the doors to the ballroom and sighs. "Perhaps no one else is coming?"
"I had a dream the other day, probably another memory from another time. I was with a group of other Lawgivers and our breatheren of the moon. We were a family of a kind. I would like to form one of these groups, with you." Silk looks away shyly. "Then you would be family and you could stay here."
Bright Journey Taking a sip of brandy, Bright Journey gestures out towards the foyer, past the door to the ballroom they were currently in. "It's still quite early, you know," she replies. "And I'm not sure how many people you invited, but many haven't quite ended their work for the day. We're still at the tail end of setting up here, after all, and the sun hasn't quite set. I don't know about our silver friends--they are, after all, rather busy right now--but I think some of the locals or neighbors would still show." She laughs quietly. "It can't all be about the silver and gold, after all," she murmurs. "Or we would be very lonely people indeed."

With that, Bright takes another good swig of brandy and snags a sweetmeat to nibble. "Besides, if there's anything the good folk of the Temple District appreciate, it's a party. You should have seen the place when I first arrived in Great Forks! Let's just say the festival holy days are...thorough." She coughs. "Especially for couples, apparently. Not sure what there's less of. Shame, or clothing."

Bright pauses and listens attentively at the description of the dream. She slowly nods, her face a little more serious. Nowhere is there a trace of doubt in her expression as she considers. "A family. You know, I still love my mum, but there were things on which we never saw eye to eye." She chuckles quietly. "She might have drilled some medicine into my brain despite my best efforts anyway. But that was never my sole path in life even then, and especially not now. I have had many dreams...memories...whatever you want to call them. It started with the path I'm now on, and you know, it was only a few weeks ago I came to the sudden realization that I didn't have to travel all over the East to find the right people to talk to. The leaders that will help us--gold and silver and bronze and others besides--line up and stand against the darkness. Some are here...and others, I will find by becoming shieldmate with those right here." She looks down into her half full brandy, then takes another swig. "Shieldmate, diplomat, courier, courtier...and maybe even family.

"The gods, they guide us in subtle and mysterious ways." She finishes her brandy and looks out one of the windows towards the front of the mansion, where it looks like a pair of guests might be coming up the walk to the front door. "And then sometimes, they bludgeon us over the head with capital-D Destiny. Not sure which it is now."

Silk Moon Lotus A well dressed couple coming in the the front door and are greeted by the butler. As though it were a sign to the rest of the guests, the room goes from Silk and Bright to twenty people. The evening's entertainment, a quartet of talented singers, arrive shortly after. The party has begun!
"I cannot wait for one of these festival days." Silk giggles a bit at the image of the celebration. "At least we don't have to eat all the food. I should probably mingle for a few minutes at least or they will think I'm a poor host." Silk draws in a breath then lets it out.
Silk goes from group to group, seeming to know exactly how to speak to each group without trying. Even the two groups that are clearly not from the Scavenger Lands she interacts with them almost flawlessly. She never overstays with any one group of guests and makes her way back to Bright in less than an hour.
Bright Journey Never one to be the wallflower, Bright Journey is more than happy to offer Silk a parting raise of her empty glass before the Night Caste hostess starts mingling with her guests. As soon as Silk is off, Bright sneaks one more sweetmeat, then starts drifting in the other direction, meeting, greeting, mingling, and most of all, learning about everyone around who's anyone that cared to show up to the party. For all that Bright really is a country girl at heart, she clearly has no social fear. More importantly, perhaps, she's a great deal more moderate about drinking in front of people she's only just meeting, and she's as shrewd with them as she is friendly. Surely, by the time this is over she'll be as dialed into the Temple District social scene as anyone.

t After the first hour, Silk and Bright meet back up. Bright has a more refined flute of wine, and it's still mostly full, as she gives Silk a friendly grin. "Well, look at you, Miss Hostess. I know far more about the gods of this part of the Temple District than I ever expected to, and I feel the richer for it. There's a few people here more highly placed than I originally thought there'd be." She holds out the wine flute, to clink glasses. "To the sweet and dulcet tones of success."

Silk Moon Lotus Silk smiles at her friend "Indeed, I never would have guessed there were so many household gods in the district. I found out why I was able to get the house for the price I did. This is an old house and the legends say that it was built on top of some kind of burial grounds. I think there may be a tomb or two on the grounds, who knows what's down there." Silk takes a practiced sip from her flute "Doesn't that sounds exciting?"
Bright Journey At this, Bright Journey sips from her wine flute as well, and as she does so her expression slowly becomes more and more bemused. "Oh, dear. I'm pretty sure there's quite a few stories in the library about what happens when you move into a haunted house, Silk. Especially as a young, defenseless girl." She snickers quietly. "This should be hilarious. You know I'm in, and not least of which because I think I'm going to take you up on the house offer. Can't let you live here alone, after all." She smiles fondly. "In all seriousness, thank you. You've been fantastically generous and I will repay your generosity with my aid in any way I can, and with honor." She snickers again. "And if the gods are kind, putting arrows into the undead. You know my bow actually -likes- that kind of thing, right? Not figurative, either."
