Jenner Nexus, hub of the Threshold, Jewel of the East, biggest city that's not on the imperial isle. Whatever you know it as, this is where you can keep your finger on the throbbing pulse of creation. And finger on that pulse is what brings the man known only as Jenner to Nexus' riverport.

"You know what they say Oro. The brighter the dress the smellier the pits. But it's in those hairy jungles where you find your treasure." Oro, must be the big man standing next to Jenner for he just blinks at him, "Cap'n, literally no one says. I don't think ever." the scruffy young man that's been called 'Cap'n' but looks nothing of the sort says, "Well it will be saying. I'll make it a thing." Oro just rolls his eyes at Jenner and says, "Right.. I'm just gonna go buy some more hard tack and rice for the Nereid." Jenner gives the big man a thumbs up as he shurgs out of his and sets it at his feet. Using it as a stoll he can prop his foot and look about the area meaningfully.

Now where to start.... "I did not plan past this part." the scruff man says to himself.

Tolon Tolon travels with a group of his nomads, bows over their shoulders ands and blades at their hips it's hard to see them as anything other than a guard, or possibly thugs. They number a bakers dozen, each takes in the docks with interest, pointing out different things to each other in the way of tourists. Tolon however is focused on a well dressed man walking beside him. "It is done then. You
Tolon "It is done then. You will return in a month with the wine and spirits we've ordered." Tolon smiles cheerfully. "And Captain, I have been drinking in the local bars. I have been listening to talk. It will not be watered down for the... 'pissant savages who won't know any better'. If that were to happen I would be forced to take reimbursement from your other cargo."
Jenner Jenner has reached into his pack and produced a bright green apple and and simple knife that he uses to cut away slices of apple and bit clean from the unsharp edge. He looks around, eventually seeing the nomad's that are walking instep with the merchant. Why this could be his cue. He stuffs his apple into his mouth to free his hands and replaces the knife in his pack before sling it back up over one shoulder. The scruffy young man approaches, Tolon and his well dressed companion, "Sorry to interupt, but I couldn't help but over hear. I specialize in doing honest work because 'noble savages always know better.'" He looks between Tolon and the captain, "If you have to get these libations through hostile waters, the Unchaine Nereid can get them where they need to be for you."
Tolon Tolon shrugs a lazy shoulder, his expression amused. He glances at his current companion. "It would seem you have competition Captain." He studies Jenner. "I am Tolon, of the Kete, Chief of tribe Tolon. The shipment was to be brought from the Hundred Kingdoms, so it's hard to say if the waters would be hostile. At present not... But who knows when those petty kingdoms will change their minds." He shrugs. "I can give you the details and hear your price, but introductions first I think? I like a name to attach to those I do business with."
Jenner "I am Jenner. Captain of the Unchained Nereid. She's not always much to look at but she's one of the most solid barges that travels the rivers of the East. IT's an honor to meet a chief." He looks to the other Merchant then and says, "I am not a greedy man. I just need enough to provide for me and mine. I'll travel in convoy with you for a fair cut. Get a better chance of getting the cargo there in one piece?" Jenner looks between Tolon and the Merchant, with a pleasant smile. He offers both a thumbs up as if to say, 'See! This is a good deal!'
Tolon Tolon chuckles. "No cargo there, though we've goods we're looking to sell, some fine furs. Some very good statues, even some furniture. Trickets my people wish to be rid of. I would get you a list. You could then deduct their value from your fee or ship them for commission." He motions briefly to his guards anf they turn heading off, obviously dismissed. "Come, we will eat and talk of the deal over food."
Jenner "I think this is an excellent suggestion Chief Tolon." Jenner offers a somewhat awkward attempt at a formal bow, "I will follow your lead."
Jenner Food. It is the universal language and it is the perfect place for discussing business. And so falling instep with Tolon's entourage as he shoulders his back the young man asks, "So... where's there good food near here then?"
Tolon This being the docks, there are plenty of taverns, yet none are upscale. Many of Tolon's dismissed companions have headed to such bars. A group of five have made their way to The place is smoke filled and loud, there's dice games being played in one corner, which a pair of Tolon's friends have loudly and cheerfully joined. The other three are currently trying to arrange a fight in the back. One of the local bookies trying to determine odds on the extremely confident nomad who seems content to fight anyone in the bar... Or possibly everyone. Tolon ignores all this as je moves to a secluded table, settling in his seat, studying Jenner all the while. "Food is a good companion to conversation it is true." He smiles to Jenner. "So, Captain tell me, why I should hire you over a captain I know fears me too much to be dishonest?"
Jenner "Well for starters." Jenner says as he kneels next to the table they've chosen, "Well for starts. If fear is what motivates him to be honest, well that means he's only honest until he finds something that scares him more." Jenner adds at this point, "Which isn't to say you aren't terrifying, Just those motivated by fear usually act by whatever fear is in front of them in the moment, rather than thinking ahead that far. With me? I've got something to prove, and positive reputation is worth more to me than coin right now. So I am motivated to make good on my promises."
Tolon Tolon looks at Jenner. "A good answer, if a little flattering in places. A man with something to prove is good." He grins. "Sit, we will order fruits and cheese." He studies the table for a moment. "I know what it is to have something to prove. I will compile a list of what we wish to sell and you can give me a price for the shipping of these items and the wine at the other end. Would you object to representatives traveling with you?"
Jenner "Not at all." Jenner says with a shake of his head, "Our primary cargo is, infact, passangers, so we are used to it." He smiles at the mention of ordering of fruit and cheeses, "Well then, I vote dragon fruit and whatever their softest cheese is!"
Tolon Tolon lets out a loud, cutting whistle, easily heard over the noise of the room. His words likewise loud and traveling. "Food here. Dragon fruit and your best goat cheese. And wine." He turns back to Jenner. "The trip shall be to Yerrin to the west. It is several days from here. There should be no complications. The Kete however are not welcome there in any numbers." He shrugs. "I will accompany you, with... Four of my people if that is agreeable? What would the fare be if we were to fill your hold? I cannot say this will be the case, but we have done much raiding and my people look to trade where they think they will get good prices."
Jenner "That would be fine. As long as.. well they are going to aggressive when you accompany us?" Jenner asks. As he does he reaches into his pack and produces a small scrap of parchement and a bit of charcoal. He scribbles something down there and folds it and passes it to Tolon, "This is what I am thinking."
Tolon Tolon laughs as he looks at the nomads in the bar. The dice players are swearing quietly at poor fortunes and preparing the next toss of the dice. The fighter is currently grinning as he collects his winnings from dockworkers, smiling through a split lip. Tolon looks almost proud. "They will be the best behaved people aboard your ship, they will not so much as speak unless spoken to or with my leave." He raises to help take the trays from the woman bringing their food and wine. "You will be glad for them if there should prove to be raiders however. Few fight as well."
Jenner "Very good then." Jenner says, "Hopefully it will be boring trip and we can all just enjoy the trip and some river fishing." And that said, Jenner extends his hand across the table, "Well than shall we shake on the deal?"
Tolon Tolon nods with a grin. "We shall." He gives the offered hand a firm shake. "And tomorrow I shall have the list of items to load." He picks up a piece of fruit and takes a bite before pouring himself some wine. "I shall be eating on your ship for the next few days. Would you do the honour of eating in my camp tomorrow, we can begin moving the cargo."
Jenner Jenner nods to Tolon and says, "It would be my honor, Chief Tolon." Jenner says, a nod punctuating his firm handshake. "I will bring some wine since I'lll be the guest." And that said he takes a drink of his own wine and snarfs down a few slices of dragon fruit. He's got an appetite that's for certain.
Tolon There's a second fight being arranged in the back. The Nomads with Tolon eagerly collecting money from the last. The two playing dice seem to on a better streak, their coins beginning to somewhat grow while they share dirty jokes with the dock workers. Tolon considers Jenner for a moment, his expression thoughtful before he nods. "Yes, bring the wine, I had forgotten that you did such things." He eats a chunk of cheese. "It is different amongst the Kete."
Jenner "Well I pride myself on being well mannered." Jenner says, the scruffy brawler offering a smile, "Very good then, Dinner at your camp tomorrow. It'll give me a chance to hammer out a few details, make sure the Nereid is ready, and we'll be ready to put her out to river as soon as you and yours are ready." His wooden goblet is set down as he picks up some more fruit and cheese. He seems happy to enjoy this bounty. HIs eyes do float to the fight that is being set up. "Any picks on the winner? I've only been half watching."
Tolon Tolon turns to look at the fighters, weighing the dock workers briefly. "Korvin, he has only fought once... He'll be good for another round. He is a strong fighter, fast, clever and tough." He takes a gulp of wine. "He his good with a sword or spear, but with fists, he is excellent."

True to Tolon's words the fight starts with Korvin letting his opponent swing and miss, he parries and counters several times, but he's measuring range, gauging his opponents speed and ability. It's obvious he's the quicker fighter and his hand speed is good, yet there's little sign of much power as yet.

Jenner "Good with his fists eh?" It sounds like that has gotten Jenner's attention, "Well maybe when I come to your camp for that dinner He'll do me the courtesy of a quick row pre dinner." The scruffy man that apparantly is captain of a river barge starts to stand and says, "But.. I should go and get the Unchained Nereid ready to make berth. It was a pleasure to meet Chief Tolon. Hopefully this is the start a profitable association." And with that Jenner offers the chief a polite bow and makes his way out.
