Spring Wind Late at night on the docks of Great Forks, a breeze blows in from the river carrying with it the scents of trade and the voice of workers and merchants chattering about their latest finds, trips from abroad, and of course the ever-present arguments about docking procedure and mundane complaints about how one fee or another is outlandish. Amid these crowds works Spring Wind, working for a few extra dinars with the port authority as she hauls crates down from a large vessel that appears to have come from Nexus. It's towards the end of her shift, the work finally halted by the ringing of a large bell as the laborers move to the port authority's office to collect their pay.

Spring in particular has sent word with Amethyst to call on Salara to speak about doing a favor for someone. With Spring's reputation among her closer friends, that likely means some opportunity for profit and poetic justice too.

Black Pearl The drawing of pay goes well enough, but when Spring gets there, the clerk looks at notes, and shakes his head. "Something's come up. Note says you're supposed to go downstairs to talk to someone. Doesn't say you can't get paid--just that you need to talk first." He points towards the stairway, and then goes to the next person.

In the basement, well, ther is a room with a door, and things are somewhat messy, but Cynis Salara is sitting on a somewhat rickety chair, though still poinsed and self-possessed. "Hello. My hearthsister recommended I meet with you, and so here I surely am," she says with a smile. "Care for something to drink? There is pure water, or some mid-grade, but strong beer."

Spring Wind Walking down into the basement to the creak of steps and a small breeze rolling in from the outside, Spring waves to Salara. "Beer." she says, before she drags the chair out a short distance and sits down. "So. What're your feelings on the Guild?" she asks, tapping her fingers on the table absently. "You seem like you'd have a clear view of things from the waterways and docks."
Black Pearl "Honestly? An alternate power structure to the Realm, one that reaches farther, and often works with the Realm, but there are tensions. They'll go with whichever way gets them more money," Salara says, as she takes a drink of water. "So...I have no strong favor of it, and I'd be up for using it to my own ends, generally to weaken it," she finally replies. "I don't know if that's what you're looking to hear, but...I suspect we could work together..."
Spring Wind "Sure." Spring says, "Fact is, they're getting fat off of the little guy's misery. Thought a guild factor or two could stand to make a donation." she adds. "But before I can think of what kind of donation, we need to know who's open to doing that." though her gestures say something else entirely. <<Need some people to find and hit a guildsman's coffers, you get a cut and my proceeds go to the little guy.>> comes the meaning
Black Pearl "That seems to be the case with almost everyone in power. I like to think I treat my employees well. Of course, that just gets me better, more loyal, employees." And she does have a reputation as someone with high standards, but loyal to her subordinates. <<Which guildsman? Does it matter?>> "There are, of course, a number of slaveowners who run the drug fields. Then there are the slave traders. And those who bring in rare bits from elsewhere." She pauses a moment, "Some are Dragon-Chosen. The ones who aren't, and are still rich..."
Spring Wind "Dunno, but I've seen a big tree out back in his house." Spring says, winking. "You probably know the one. Can you think of anyone else who'd be willing to help make our case?" she asks.
Black Pearl "I know the house you're talking about. As for others? Let me think," Salara says for a moment. "There are a pair of merchants in the city, who would certainly assist, though they might overshadow things, and not necessarily be...subtle. Still, I could ask one person in particular." She nods, "I bet we can investigate him thoroughly, and once we have...convince him to donate to the wealth and prospierty of the folk of the city." She smiles, "Did you want...anything else to happen? Humiliation? Injury? Something even more permanant?"
Spring Wind "Nope. Since it seems like we're not being listened in on... I'm capable of being a petty bitch." Spring says, leaning back into her chair. "I'd rather spend effort taking the things they prize the most, which is to say wealth and power, and letting their skewed priorities torment them like we took something actually meaningful. Springing some slaves is on the table too, but evidence might be better than a direct jailbreak. Only so much even /we/ can do in a single run."
Black Pearl "Not to mention that slaves would be regarded by the city's laws as property. If you want to hit him...manufacture something and get the slaves to be seized to pay his fines...and delivered somewhere where they will be useful and not...not as ill-treated. Or perhaps even well-treated, if they are skilled. Still, almsot anywhere would be better than with him, yes?"
Spring Wind "True." Spring says, "I'm not a fan of chains on principle, but you take what you can get in the here and now." Spring says, shrugging. "Still, I'm hoping you at least know some people. If not, I have my own associates... Who can still offer some help either way."
Black Pearl "Oh, I do know people, and I know someone in particular who is well-suited to this sort of thing, of being un-noticed and making things just so. We can plant false evidence, steal from his coffers, and leave with none the wiser...and simply us richer. I look forward to it," she says with a bright smile.
