Amethyst And again Amethyst finds herself in one of the libraries of Great Forks, this time, in the university. Her desk is absolutely covered with books on things from elementals to demons to archiac and forgotten languages to a book speaking of the history of spells.

She even faintly glows as she goes about her work, scribbling notes here and there, drawing various sigils and symbols, putting ideas together as fast as her mind will allow her. Her strange tattoos are roiling with energy, and every so often she meditates for a few minutes to keep her mind sharpened and focused.

Amilar Ereyo After a good while of uninterrupted studying, the great doors to the library swing open, and footsteps signal the arrival of two newcomers. They stop shortly after entering. An elder woman's voice - Amethyst might recognize her as one of the academy's staff - says in a hushed voice: "And this concludes our tour of this building. I trust you will find our great library to your satisfaction."
Amilar Ereyo This is answered by another voice, someone younger, with the unmistakable accent common to Lookshyan Riverspeak: "That was a wonderful tour. Thank you so much! I would love to spend a while in here, if I may." This person sounds exceedingly happy, like she just entered a gift shop.
Amethyst Amethyst looks up from her studies, and peers at this newcomer. Curious of someone who has the Lookshyian accent and has such enthusiasm for books. She's situated up on the second floor, near the guard rails so she can keep her eyes up and around when she isn't preoccupied with books. Her ears sit level as she examines this person, and tries to get a read on who she is and if she could be a potential contact.
Amilar Ereyo The staff member quickly agrees to the newcomer's request, reminding her that she can spend the day as she wishes, but will have to report to her tomorrow for drawing up the curriculum. A new addition to the faculty, then? Or a guest tutor?

In any case, the presumably Lookshyan woman starts making her way across the first floor, where most of the indices are located. One has to be able to find books in here somehow, after all. She walks slowly, clearly taking her time to take in her surroundings. Whenever she moves her left leg, Amethyst can hear strange noises of something... heavy and mechanical adjusting, compensating. Her foot clanks softly against the marble flooring. As she looks up towards the rails on the second floor, her eyes meet Amethyst's, and she blinks, clearly caught off guard by someone apparently watching her.sheHer hair is moving as if caressed by a soft breeze, despite there being no wind, and if Amethyst knows about artifacts, she can tell that her sword, while thin and elegant, could very well be a daiklave.

Amethyst The idle curiosity on the alchemist's face turns to a smile, ears perked as she gives a little wave to Ereyo, and beckons to her to come join. And then Amethyst turns to her pile of knowledge, and organizes it as one of her ears listens for Ereyo's footsteps, should be pretty easy to keep an ear on her given the strange noise of that leg.
Amilar Ereyo After that first eye contact, Ereyo's gaze quickly flicks over the other woman's features, lingering for a moment on her strange tattoos, then taking in the unmistakable glow of an Exalt's anima. A tentative smile lights up her face, and her posture relaxes.

Amethyst can hear her coming up the winding stairs swiftly. Whatever is wrong with her leg, it doesn't seem to impede her ability to walk in any way. Her steps are brisk and don't show any hint of a limp.

Just before reaching Amethyst's table, she slows down, then stops at arm's length and greets the water aspect with a respectful bow - a soldier's greeting, hand over fist. "Good afternoon", she says, still smiling, but clearly guarded. "The name is Amilar Ereyo. Whom do I have the pleasure of meeting?"

Amethyst "Afternoon." She offers a polite head bow, indicitive of someone who's more used to mingling with high society. "My name is Yim Ametis, though everyone just calls me Amethyst. Sorcerer-Alchemist at your service." She gives a guarded grin, but it's obvious she's curious. And in addition to that grin, one can feel her sorcerous strength for just a moment, like the feeling of the ocean gently pressing down upon those near her. But she only holds it for a moment before considering something.

"Amilar, amilar, I've heard that name before." She holds and taps on her head, "I can't remember where, somewhere in my studies? It's been a busy week." And whatever she wants from this conversation is as illusive as she is.

Amilar Ereyo In contrast to Amethyst, Ereyo isn't hard to read. She at least tries to hide her own curiosity... with very little success. Her eyes stay firmly locked on the other Dragon after a brief peek at the piles of scrolls and books stacked on Amethyst's table. It's clear that she's interested, but doesn't want to be nosy. At the short display of sorcerous power, her eyes brighten, and her smile looses a bit of its shyness. A faint smell of ozone begins to waft through the air around them.

"Oh, you might have heard the name around here. My Gens is famous for the scholary pursuits of its scions. I'm a sorcerer myself, a wai tan-junai, or sorcerer-engineer." She nods firmly. "Sorcerer-alchemist, you say? Is that an official rank? Do you teach here?"

Amethyst "Oh! Right it's among the Gens major! I was looking into Lookshy the other day." Amethyst says with a grin. "And it's no rank, it's just what I am and what I do. Though if you've seen the Arena you see I haven't slouched my melee training. Tho I could very well teach at this place couldn't I?" Amethyst considers. Teaching wasn't something she was planning on doing, but she would be capable. "Maybe I should try that sometime."

"Sorcerer-Engineer, the ones that work with the coveted first age technology. Technology I'm especially interested in, but have little way to study it. Not many books survive even speaking of its marvels." She says.

Amilar Ereyo "Indeed! Such a waste, isn't it? I can't even begin to describe the immense frustration... almost everything has to be reverse engineered." Ereyo, now frowning, gives an exasperated sigh - and then the frown is gone again, just like that, swiftly replaced by a massive grin. "Despite that, I wouldn't have it any other way. If you have ever witnessed the glory that is a functional skyship's engine room, you would have to agree." Her voice rises in excitement as she says this.

Herst the aisle adjacent to them, someone clears their throat, then goes "Shhhhh!"

Mollified, the Air dragon shuts her mouth, quickly glances in the complainer's direction, then inches a bit closer to the table, pointing at a free seat. "May I? I would love to hear more about your field of work. Alchemy isn't exactly my specialty, but my own workings often require exotic components..."

Amethyst Amethyst nods, and gestures to the seat. "I've seen First Age technology up close before. It's the single most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I'll have to show you what I've found sometime." She grins widely, and finally some of her own guard melts away. She really /is/ just excited about this sort of thing. "Never gotten to see anything as cool as a functioning skyship's engine room though. I've seen nonfunctional ones tho."

"As for alchemy, you won't find a better alchemist in this... well, I would say fine city but..." She chuckles, "You know what I mean. Exotic components for sorcery are something of a specialty of mine. I made the ink that contains the wyld essence of my sorcery, after all. Constrains it and makes it mine rather than having it control me. I can almost shape it like the fae do, but not quite the same."

"I have an entire workshop in the back of my store where I have done all sorts of incredible things."

Amilar Ereyo After sitting down - accompanied by a series of almost inaudible hisses and the sound of smoothly shifting gears - Ereyo leans forward onto her elbows, chin resting on folded hands. A joyful grin spreads across her face. Tiny thunderbolts dance in her eyes, and the invisible currents of wind around her pick up enough speed to lightly ruffle a bunch of scrolls. Thankfully, Amethyst's stack is too heavy to be blown away by that small manifestation of elemental power.

"That sounds exactly like the kind of store where I could spend hours just browsing... and completely neglecting my duties." She chuckles, but the prospect seems to excite her. "You know... I heard talk of a store like that, but had no idea where to look for it. This city's layout is extremely confusing. How long have you been living here? Is there anything else of interest for a sorcerer? And what about that arena?"

Amethyst "I've lived here a year and a half and I still don't know the half of it." Amethyst says. "I've gotten around the city quite a few times and I hardly could tell you anything. What I know for sure is that this place is teeming with strange folks and Exalted of all sorts and sizes. An exigent of a mountain god that's given him incredible strength. One of shifting waters that's shape is as mecurial as she is. Then there's us dragons, and I've seen some fae roaming around too. It's... something."

"For sorcerers? Well there's various libraries and I'm sure there's a few schools here and there if you know where to look. And the Arena? There's a tournament going on right now. I was one of the contenders by the aforementioned mountain man was too much for me. What do you even do against someone who's skin is like stone and hits as fast and unpredictably as a landslide?"

"And I'd be glad to show you around my shop sometime. By the dragons if you think my stock is incredible, just imagine what my notes would be like. An entire lifetime's worth of experimentation and research. And I'd be happy to help you with finding magical reagents for your own work with first age artifice, if only for the challenge." She grins widely.

Amilar Ereyo Upon hearing all this, Ereyo's cheeks slowly but surely flush with the warm glow of excitement. She repeatedly taps her chin with an index finger while listening with rapt attention. As Amethysts briefly describes her encounter with the so-called mountain man, the other dragon's eyes widen. Beyond that, she doesn't show much interest in the tournament. Clearly her priorities lie elsewhere now.

"You know, I've heard a great many tales about this city in teahouses, from traveling merchants and itinerant monks. Decadence, they call it. It sure is... a lot to take in. Maybe you could show me around a bit? If it isn't too much trouble, of course..." At this, she gestures towards the stacks of study material. "And I can't wait to visit your shop! Although I've got no idea when I will be able to come visit you in the next few days. I've been hired as a guest tutor, but they are still figuring out where my lectures would best fit into their curriculum." She rolls her eyes.

Amethyst "I was wondering what brought a Sorcerer-Engineer to Great Forks." Amethyst says, "Not surprising that you'd be giving lectures. You sound like you have quite the academic background yourself. Alas, most of my knowledge comes from first hand experience or books that I've read. Very little formal education for an outcaste like me." She sighs. "Managed well for myself anyway."

"And sure, we can plan around whenever you get released from your duties here." She chuckles. "How about we meet again in a week's time and I'll show you the city as we head back to my shop?"

Amilar Ereyo "Sounds like a plan!" Ereyo brightens, then immediately deflates, eyebrows furrowing. "It's going to be a week full of meetings, getting to know the staff and learning how to not get lost on the academy grounds, trying to keep my bodyguards from following me *everywhere*... Not unlike my first steps back at Valkhawsen when I was a student myself."

She gives a low groan, then grins sheepishly at Amethyst. "Sorry. You certainly have better things to do than listen to me complaining." Now that they are not exactly complete strangers anymore, she allows her gaze to linger on the water dragon's tattoos. Judging by the movement of her eyes, she can read Old Realm just fine - unsurprisingly, given her background.

"Self-taught, you say? I don't know much about outcaste communities in the area. Surely there would be other dragons in your family to teach you?" Her smile fades, and she looks up to meet Amethyst's eyes.

Amethyst "My household was killed by anathema when I was too young to remember, my father's been in exile ever since. And then he vanished, leaving me with just my mother. My Dream-Souled mother. I know I have a brother somewhere, but I've never met him." Amethyst sighs. "I have a few other Dragons teaching me the ropes of how to deal with my Exaltation, but I've largely been working alone."

Amethyst's tattoos tell quite the story. It's a little difficult to read with some of them obscured by clothing, but what is there is clear: A warrior who used her discipline and faith to battle the madness beyond, who stood up to the chaos and exploded with divine energy, and who has accomplished much in short life. But for all that she is, she has been forever isolated, from the wyld-children that once trained her, from her parents and the society she could have been part of, and from her friends and their own group. Despite it, she soldiers on, seeking unity and purpose in her designs, seeing to burst the boundries of what is possible for a Dragon-Blooded to accomplish, and to find her home and restore her place in society, such that she might one day have the power to change it all.

One might wonder the obscured parts say, but the most prominent parts of her story lie along her revealed arms.

Amilar Ereyo There's no mistaking the increasingly horrified look on Ereyo's face as Amethyst recounts what befell her family. She continues looking at the other sorcerer's face for a few more seconds in quiet, painful sympathy, then quickly shifts her gaze towards the bookshelf right across the aisle.

"Forgive me. You must think me incredibly rude", she mutters. "At least you were not completely lost... I can't bear to think about how that must be, having to learn how to master your Essence without assistance." A shiver runs through her body, and the violet in her eyes shifts towards dark purple. Once again, she examines the tattoos. One can tell that she's quite the fast reader.

"You aren't that old yet, are you? And still you've mastered sorcery, all by yourself?" She looks up again and tries a tentative smile. "I think we could learn much from each other, given time."

Amethyst "Not even 21 yet." Amethyst says, with a little grin. "But enough about my own past. I think you should spend what little freetime you have left doing something you wanna do before you get eaten up by meetings and bureaucracy. You wanna take a look at what I'm researching?" She asks with a grin. "And I know a few other books I can show you... This library's pretty nice"
