Serene Herald A fine day in Great Forks, the city of a thousand temples, with a thousand gods or more. And, among them, a young, severe-faced being walks confidently, eyes a rainbow hue, as he talks with another minor god--the genius loci of a block that has a lovely garden and fountain. "Well, it seems as long as I don't try to carve out territory--or followers--I'll be fine here, then. Can always trade favors for favors. As for you? You've been very kind, and I'll remember that, repay as I can down the line." He gives a bit of a bow to the plant-formed lady, flowers and vines in her hair.
Rishi Meanwhile, the lovely Exigent Priestess just happens to be walking past the block, carrying a basket of peaches and humming to herself. When she spots the two gods, she bows respectfully for a moment, before resuming her walk...then she stops.
She cocks her head to the side, and puts the non-basket holding hand to her head, like she has a sudden pain. Her anima begins to glow slightly, surrounding her in a shimmer of light on the pond. After a moment, she turns back to look at you both, eyes lighting with recognition. "Ah! It is being Perfect Question! Hello!" She waves and then turns to continue on.
Serene Herald "Rishi, Chosen of the Lady of the Changing Waters, I would have words with you," He nods respectfully to the other god and then walks towards the woman. "Strange you should call me by that name, perhaps there is a tale to tell there? And I see your shadow ripples as though seen through a pond."

He walks next to her, those strange eyes tracing over her body with appreciation, certainly. "Have you a place of privacy?"

Rishi "Eh?" She blinks, then cocks her head, surprised that he'd claim to be someone else. When he mentions her shadow, she pauses in shock, then flinches and shakes her head. "You are being the Perfect Question though, are you not? Why should I not be calling you thus?"
She says nothing about her shadow, only "If you are wishing to be doing the speaking with me, then we can be doing the heading back to the temple."
Serene Herald "Have you names or titles you do not claim openly? That you wish others to not bring attention to? It is similar to that. And I would be glad to go with you there. You are steady in your worship and propitiation?" He looks at her questioningly.
Rishi She nods "Of course, I am being most of the attentive to my dutites as Priestess." and leads him several blocks over to the temple, through the door, back a few areas, and into her office. Shutting the door behind her, she stands in front of it. "Now, please be telling me, what is going on?" she says this sweetly, but firmly.
Serene Herald "I am presenting myself in various roles and guises, to learn of the city," he says. "Mostly, it is to see how various gods act, how they jockey, gain power. I want, am hoping, to do so myself, even if my purvue is very small." He smiles wryly, "I do not even represent codes, or ciphers, but I work under them within their portfolio. And what of you? What do you do, with eyes to pierce the gods' disguises, and to carelessly speak what you think to be true?
Rishi Rishi closes her eyes in thought, taking a deep breath as she does so. After a few moments, she nods. "I am being Rishi, Chosen of the Lady of the Changing Waters. As you are being a god, I am doing the granting you the respect you deserving from the priest." She bows.
"But I am also doing the warning of you, that this city is being the place that is doing the eating of the gods. They are doing the bickering and the fighting over the worshippers and the strange things. If you are trying to be doing the "gaining of the power" I would be doing the suggesting that you try to be building the cult in the other of the places first, lest those with the superior of the power be doing the eating of you here first."
Serene Herald "I appreciate the warning Rishi, and thank you for it--as well as your Lady. I do not seek power here, and will not go against those who are established. If anything truly goes awry, I abandon here and return to Yu-Shan if nothing else. But it is so *different* here! It is something I need to understand, if I am to speak directly with mortals. A decade or so around Creation, and--especially if I survive and thrive--and I should be able to see similar traps and troubles in the City of the Heavens and deal with them appropriately."

Eyes gleam as he smiles. "I still am impressed by your senses, both mundane and mystical. I am not sure if I would be better served trying to hide better, or to be myself more. What do you think?"

Rishi "The Waters are of both Creation and Spirit, thus I too may pierce the veil and discern truths." she's sounding like she's reciting something she memorized. "But...it is good. I am thinking that it is being most well for the gods to be understanding the people, so I am doing the thanking of you for the consideration." She headtilts. "Mmm... The people are often doing the wanting of the things from the gods or trying to be gaining the favors with them. If you are wanting to be doing the understanding of this place, I am thinking that your 'human disguise' is being the most correct of the choices."
Serene Herald "Then I shall keep it, and ask that you keep this a secret as well. And in exchange, well, my power is limited compared to yours and your Lady's, but I will always listen if you have a request, and will try to grant it if possible." He smiles, "Is there anything you would ask of me now?"
Rishi Rishi smiles and steps back from the door, bowing. "No, there is nothing I am doing the needing from you, only that you are being the safe."
Serene Herald Herald bows back. "I cannot always be safe. But I will always be watchful to get through the times when safety has fled." He smiles, "Be well, and we may meet again." And he steps out of the temple. And, once further down the boulevard, murmurs, "A dangerous one, that. I'll have to write to find out more about her patron..." And he shivers slightly, trying to maintain the facade of nonchalance.
Rishi Rishi, for her part turns to look at her desk and all the paperwork. She sighs, sadly. In Firetongue she says "This is such a wonderful dream. Can I still keep it going? Is it possible to keep all these slight deceptions going?" She sighs again.
"I think I am going to be having to be making the God." She looks up, at where the moon currently is. "You would give me a sign if this was a bad idea, right? I don't want to offend you, this wonderful gift that can never be repaid. I am trying to be doing good for everyone with it... Keeping this up however...it is being so exhausting. I don't now how Pearly does it. All these lies."
